# Garage bike storage

Gear is one product for now, and the page says so rather than dressing it up: a rotating steel wall mount that carries a bike by its top tube, swings out for access and turns flat to the wall when the car needs the space. What joins it depends on who registers interest.

## Products

- **Rotating bike wall mount** — £44.99. Hangs the bike by the frame and swings it flat to the wall when the car needs the space. (/product/bike-wall-mount-rotating)

## Before you buy

### A cantilever multiplies force at the fixing

The bike hangs on an arm, and an arm levers against the wall far harder than the weight of the bike suggests. Into masonry, use proper frame fixings. Into a stud wall it must hit a stud — there is no plasterboard plug that will hold a bike hanging on an arm, whatever the packet says. The supplier does not state what fixings are in the box, so buy to suit your wall before the mount arrives.

### Check the frame before the wall

The mount carries the bike by its top tube, and not every frame has one it can use. Carbon frames and heavily sloped top tubes do not like being hung this way, and some full-suspension frames have nothing straight to hang from at all. Look at the bike you own before you look at the wall.

### Leave room for the swing

The arm rotates through 360 degrees, which is only useful if the arc is clear. Hang it where a bike swung out for access does not meet the car door, the bench or a shelf edge, and where a bike turned flat leaves a walkway. Mark the arc on the wall with the bike held up before the drill comes out.

Not sure where this fits in the room? How to kit out a man cave (/man-cave) sets out the order to do it in.
