# Man cave bar & games room

The dartboard, for now. Bar & games holds one line: a soft-tip electronic board that keeps score on an LCD for several players, runs the standard games and ships with six darts. Soft tip means plastic points into a plastic face: no sisal dust, no stray dart marking the wall. Decanters, poker and the bar itself wait on the list.

### Hang it right on day one

Centre of the bull at 1.73 m from the floor and the oche 2.37 m from the face of the board. Those are the standard measurements, they are worth getting right before the first game, and nobody re-hangs a board later. Measure from the finished floor — if the tiles are going down, lay them first.

### Soft tip is the right board for a converted garage

A bristle board sheds sisal and a stray steel dart marks whatever is behind it; a soft-tip board sheds nothing and a miss bounces off. In a room that is also a garage, or shares a wall with the house, that is the deciding difference. The trade is that it only takes soft-tip darts — steel points will damage the segmented face, so keep the two sets apart.

### What the scoring does, and does not

The board keeps the score for multiple players and runs a set of standard games, which removes the two things that end a darts night early: the chalk, and the argument. It does not make anyone throw better, and it is not a tournament board. For a garage corner that is the right size of promise.

Not sure where this fits in the room? How to kit out a man cave (/man-cave) sets out the order to do it in.
